Software Engineering

Macaw’s software engineering expertise is the cornerstone of the services it provides to customers.  It has been providing technology driven services to a diverse range of customers for in excess of ten years and has grown throughout by a mix of recommendation and repeat business.  Its staff of full time, professional developers has worked with customers in a variety of capacities from individual assignments working with a customer’s existing team to providing bespoke project delivery under the control of Macaw.  This is the springboard for shaping its partnerships with product vendors and for determining Macaw’s product development strategy.

Partnerships

Early in Macaw’s growth it was recognised that there was a significant overlap in the services it provided to its end customers and those of the professional services divisions of product vendors.  As a result Macaw has, over the years, built partnerships with a number of product companies that have large enterprise applications covering a variety of business sectors.  Through Macaw’s investment in staff training and the dedication of the employees, it is successful in maintaining these relationships and developing them so that there are now staff who are fluent in a number of technologies and applications.

Specialisations

In response to demand from customers, Macaw has developed particular technical and commercial specialisations that underpin a significant proportion of its on-going and expected future business.  In technological terms Macaw now has an enviable track record in delivering real enterprise solutions in:

• distributed remote applications running under Microsoft’s Mobile operating system integrating with web technology services, be they either Java or Microsoft based
• RFID and barcoding applications
• Vending systems using remote data capture and internet based operational control systems.

A common theme in each of these areas is the integration of mobile and web server based technologies with emerging hardware and communications systems such as: GPRS, Bluetooth, GPS, RFID and digital image capture. Not surprisingly Macaw has capitalised on its privileged position of experience in these areas by developing products that can be used either off the shelf, or as a basis for development of a bespoke application tailored to the specific needs of a customer.
