Given Macaw's extensive experience with web and mobile applications, building a GIS based product was a natural addition to Macaw’s existing intellectual property.

One such product resulted from a recommendation from a technology partner. Macaw build a GPS and Audio Media solution for the Warden of Portland Bill Nature Reserve. The resulting product, mPOINT, is a system for delivering audio content to an operator at a specific latitude and longitude. The Warden wished to use the product for two purposes:

  • To play audio on a tour bus during a week-long marine festival in the summer of 2007
  • To allow visitors to walk on the reserve and hear an audio guide at specific points along in the reserve.

Macaw has yet to decide on the direction that it wishes to pursue to host and promote this product but it again demonstrates another expertise that Macaw can incorporate into any potential solution.

Following from this development Macaw is also producing a standalone mobile based product which uses the GPS and GPRS capabilities of today’s mobile devices to track in real time the location of the device at any given time. Obvious uses would be to track the location of field operatives as they undertake their remote tasks.
